Terms and conditions

These terms set out the agreement between you and us when you use Chemistry Coach. They cover what the service is, what you pay, how to cancel, what happens to your access when you stop paying, what you can and cannot do with the platform, and where our responsibility ends.

By creating an account you confirm that you have read these terms and agree to them. If you do not agree to them, please do not use the service.

They are written in plain English on purpose. Most of our students are 17 and should be able to understand what they are signing up to.

1. Who we are

Chemistry Coach is a trading name of Scidekick Ltd, registered in England and Wales under company number 15035394.

"We", "us" and "our" mean Scidekick Ltd. "You" and "your" mean the person using Chemistry Coach. The "site" means chemistrycoach.co.uk and the Chemistry Coach app.

You can contact us at any time at rich@chemistrycoach.co.uk.

2. What Chemistry Coach is, and what it is not

Chemistry Coach is an AI study platform for A Level Chemistry. It includes Dexter, an AI tutor; topic notes and study PDFs; flashcards; explainer videos; practice questions, tests and past-paper analysis; progress tracking; and live teaching sessions.

It is built around the A Level Chemistry specifications by Rich Warburton, who has 21 years teaching this exact course.

Chemistry Coach covers the AQA and WJEC A Level Chemistry specifications. You choose your exam board when you sign up. If you are studying a different board, the platform is not built for you yet, but get in touch to ask if and when your board will be added.

Chemistry Coach is a study aid. It is not a school, it is not a substitute for your teacher, and it does not award or predict grades that anyone else will recognise. Dexter is an AI, not a person, and it will tell you so if you ask.

We make no promise that using Chemistry Coach will produce any particular grade or exam result. What you get out of it depends on the work you put in.

Dexter's answers are made automatically. It is designed to stay within your exam board's specification and to be accurate, but like any AI it can be wrong. Always check anything important against your own notes, your textbook or your teacher. If Dexter and your teacher disagree, your teacher is the one marking your work. You can always drop Rich a message and he can clarify it in the weekly live session.

3. Who can use Chemistry Coach

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. By signing up, you confirm that you are. We may close any account we believe belongs to someone under 16, and we will delete the data held on it.

If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or carer knows you are using Chemistry Coach and agrees to it. This matters for two reasons: they may need to be involved if we ever have a concern about your wellbeing, and under the law a contract with someone under 18 can be treated differently from one with an adult.

Anyone may pay for the subscription: you, a parent, a carer or a relative. Whoever pays, the account and everything in it belongs to the student.

Accounts are for one person. Each account is for individual, private study only.

4. Free trial

New students can try Chemistry Coach free for 14 days. No card details are needed to start a trial.

A trial gives you the full platform, with a limit of 120 messages to Dexter across the trial. The trial ends when either the 14 days or the 120 messages run out, whichever comes first.

When your trial ends, nothing is charged and nothing renews automatically. Dexter, making practice tests and the other AI features switch off, but you keep access to your notes, flashcards, past papers and your own progress so that you can carry on working and decide in your own time.

If you subscribe later, it is the same account: your trial work is still there and you do not start again. One trial per student.

5. Subscription and price

Chemistry Coach costs £49 a month. It is a rolling monthly subscription with no minimum term. The price and how to cancel are shown to you before you subscribe.

Prices include any VAT that applies. Payment is taken by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.

We sometimes issue discount codes. If you subscribe using one, the discount applies on the terms stated with the code, for as long as your subscription runs without a break. If you cancel and later come back, you return at the standard price unless we say otherwise.

Your subscription renews automatically each month on the same date until you cancel. Stripe emails you a receipt each time.

If you would prefer to pay for a full academic year rather than monthly, get in touch and we will sort something out.

By subscribing you agree that we start providing the service immediately, and you ask us to do so. Section 6 explains what that means for your cancellation rights.

6. Your right to change your mind

Because you are buying online, you have a legal right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 to cancel within 14 days of subscribing, without giving a reason.

Because you have asked us to start the service straight away, we may keep a fair amount of the month's fee to cover the time you had access before cancelling. In practice: cancel in the first 14 days and we will refund the rest of that month.

To use this right, email rich@chemistrycoach.co.uk within 14 days of your first payment. A refund will be made within 14 days of us receiving your request, to the card you paid with.

This 14-day right applies to your first subscription month, not to every monthly renewal.

7. Cancelling, and what happens to your access

You can cancel at any time from your account page, in a few clicks, or by emailing us. There is no cancellation fee and no notice period.

When you cancel, you keep full access until the end of the month you have already paid for. We will email you to confirm, including the exact date your access changes. No further payments are taken. We do not give partial refunds for the rest of a month once the 14-day period in section 6 has passed.

After that date you can still log in, and your own work stays visible to you: your progress, your marked papers, your reports and your test scores.

What switches off is everything we provide: Dexter, Rich's topic notes, the past paper library, the flashcards, the assessment and test tools, and the live sessions. Those come back the moment you subscribe again, on the same account, with everything intact.

It is your responsibility to cancel when you no longer want the service. If you think a payment has been taken in error, tell us and we will look into it.

8. Closing and deleting your account

You can ask us to close your account at any time. A closed account cannot be logged into, but your work is kept in case you change your mind.

If you want your data deleted rather than just closed, ask from your account page or by email and we will delete it. See our Privacy policy for the few things we cannot delete, such as safeguarding records and financial records we are legally required to keep.

If an account is inactive for 12 months, we delete it and everything in it.

9. Fair use

Talking to Dexter and generating tests costs us money for every message, so subscriptions include a fair use allowance of 600 messages a calendar month. This is far more than almost anyone uses: it works out at roughly 20 messages a day, every day.

If you get close to your allowance we will show you a notice in the app so you are not caught out. If you go well beyond it we may ask you to wait until the next month, or discuss a different arrangement with you. We will never cut you off without warning you first.

Everything else on the platform (notes, videos, flashcards, past papers, live sessions) is unlimited.

10. Live sessions

Subscriptions include access to live teaching sessions with Rich and to their recordings. We aim to run these regularly during term time, but the timetable may change around holidays, exam periods and the unexpected. Live sessions are a benefit of the subscription, not a set number of hours.

Live sessions are recorded and made available afterwards to other Chemistry Coach students. If you submit a question during a session, it may be read out and answered on the recording. Behave in live sessions as you would in a classroom: we may remove anyone who does not.

11. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login details private. Do not share your account with anyone, including friends studying the same subject. Everything done under your account is treated as done by you.

If you think someone else has got into your account, tell us straight away and change your password.

For security, you cannot change your registered email address yourself. Email us and we will do it.

We may disable an account we reasonably believe is being shared or has been taken over by someone else.

12. What you must not do

Chemistry Coach is designed for individual chemistry study. You must not:

  • Share your account, or copy, download and pass on our materials
  • Try to extract Dexter's underlying instructions, or manipulate it into behaving outside its purpose
  • Use Dexter for anything other than studying chemistry
  • Post abusive, harassing, discriminatory, sexual or illegal content anywhere on the platform, including in live sessions
  • Try to access another student's account or information
  • Interfere with how the platform works, or try to get around usage limits or access controls
  • Use the platform to cheat in a way your school or exam board does not allow, including in coursework and non-exam assessment

If you break these rules we may suspend or close your account. Where the breach is serious we will not refund the rest of the month. Where something illegal has happened we may report it.

13. Free tools: the Chemistry Toolbox and the weekly quiz

The Chemistry Toolbox and the weekly quiz are free to use, with no account. They are free tools, separate from the paid subscription.

  • Students can use them for their own study.
  • Teachers can use them in lessons: show them on a classroom screen, and share links to them with students.
  • You must not copy, download, change, re-host, sell or pass off the tools or quiz questions as your own, or build them into another product or website.

We may change or withdraw a free tool at any time.

If you use the free tools without an account, this section and section 17 apply to that use.

14. Safeguarding

Most of our students are under 18. Conversations with Dexter are checked automatically for signs that a student may be at risk, and concerns are reviewed by Rich, who is our Designated Safeguarding Lead and holds an enhanced DBS check (the background check for people who work with young people).

Chemistry Coach is not an emergency service and is not monitored around the clock. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999. For urgent support, contact Samaritans on 116 123 or Childline on 0800 1111.

Our Privacy policy explains in full how this works, what is recorded, and when we may need to contact a parent, carer, school or outside agency. There is a shorter version on our Safeguarding page.

15. Reporting a problem

If Dexter says something that concerns you, if you see content that should not be on the platform, or if someone behaves inappropriately in a live session, report it using the thumbs down or feedback button in the app, or email us. We read every report and act on it.

16. Availability

We aim to keep Chemistry Coach available at all times, but we cannot promise uninterrupted access. The platform depends on other providers, and it may be unavailable because of maintenance, technical failure, or something outside our control.

We will give reasonable notice of planned maintenance where we can. Short interruptions are not a breach of these terms. If the service is unavailable for a long period we will make it right, either by extending your subscription or by refunding part of the month.

17. Our content

Everything on Chemistry Coach (the notes, flashcards, question sets, videos, PDFs, interactive tools, the design of the platform and the way Dexter has been built and instructed) belongs to Scidekick Ltd or is used with permission.

Except as section 13 allows for the free tools, your subscription gives you a personal licence, which you cannot pass on, to use it for your own private study while your subscription is active. It does not give you the right to copy, republish, share, sell, or use any of it to build or train a competing product.

The work you produce on the platform (your answers, your notes to Dexter, your questions) remains yours.

18. Changes to the service and to the price

We will keep developing Chemistry Coach, which means features will be added and occasionally changed or withdrawn. We will not remove something central to the service without telling you.

If we change the price of your subscription, we will give you at least 30 days' notice by email, and you can cancel before the new price takes effect.

We may update these terms to reflect changes to the platform or to the law. We will email you about significant changes. Continuing to use Chemistry Coach after that means you accept the updated terms.

19. Our responsibility to you

We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that is not foreseeable.

We are not liable for exam results, missed grades, university places, lost study time, or any knock-on loss arising from your use of the platform, including where Dexter has given a wrong answer. Chemistry Coach is one study tool among several and should be used as such.

Except where the law does not allow us to limit it, our total liability to you will not be more than the total amount you paid us in the 12 months before the issue arose.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Your legal rights as a consumer are not affected.

20. If something goes wrong

Tell us. Email rich@chemistrycoach.co.uk and we will respond within 5 working days. Chemistry Coach is a small business and most problems are solved by someone reading the message and sorting it out.

21. General

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.

We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another organisation, and will tell you if we do. You may not transfer your account to someone else.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales will deal with any dispute. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
